Deep sea fishing? Priceless…

As I reported here, I was “successful” at deep sea fishing, meaning I came back with fish. Of the nine, I shared 5 of them up at the campground and today I had to do something with the other 4, as they don’t keep forever and all too quickly transition from fresh fish to just fish to gag me.

This morning I gutted them, fired up the grill to 500 degrees, put the fish in a roasting pan with olive oil and salt and roasted them for 25-30 minutes. They came out looking pretty good, so after cooling I picked out all the meat I could find. For my time and effort, four fair sized fish yielded 1 lb 6 oz of fish meat.

Doing a quick ROI analysis – the other fish probably yielded about the same or a little more; let’s call it 3 lbs of fish meat altogether. The boat trip alone was $75 plus a couple tips sprinkled around, so that’s more than $25/lb. I think I could have gotten 3 lbs of rock fish fillets at Race Street for far less than $25 / lb.

But, as the MasterCard commercial says – $X for this, $Y for that, the experience and the people – priceless!
