  • At the Marine Reserve, Barbara’s Fishtrap

Posted on July 5, 2008 7:03 pm by funintheslots@gmail.com Comment

    Click me for today’s pictures…

We all piled into the car with towels, chairs, food and a bunch of beach toys our nice neighbor lady loaned us (she has grandkids…) and head for the Half Moon Bay area. We wound up at the James V Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, where we learned about the no-bucket rule at the reserve. It makes it too tempting to gather plants and animals, the ranger told us. • Goofing, Climbing Gym, We Got Apricots

Posted on July 4, 2008 6:03 pm by funintheslots@gmail.com Comment

This morning we spent some time goofing in the garage on my Indo Board which is basically a piece of plywood on a roller that we use to improve our balance.

Then we piled into the car and went to the climbing gym for several hours.

When we got home, Continue reading → Post ID 48

  • Red Curry and Coconut Milk Soup

    Posted on July 4, 2008 3:41 pm by funintheslots@gmail.com 1 Comment

    Ingredients:

    • 1 Tbsp EVOO
    • fresh garlic grated or minced (4-5 cloves I start with)
    • fresh ginger grated or minced (a peeled piece about the size of your last thumb joint), the more, the spicier
    • red curry powder – 2tsp or more, the more, the spicier Continue reading → Post ID 48

  • Woodworking, Gymnastics, you-pick-em berries

Posted on July 3, 2008 10:47 pm by funintheslots@gmail.com Comment

After yesterday’s big day I couldn’t get anyone (except Jordan, of course, who doesn’t have any intermediate speeds) interested in going climbing or something today – so we mostly stuck around home.

After breakfast, we went out in the garage for a good workout, lifting weights and so forth. After that, Jordan and I did a little project to go in the camper. Continue reading → Post ID 48

  • Monterey Bay Aquarium, Lover’s Point, Asilomar State Beach

Posted on July 2, 2008 3:33 pm by funintheslots@gmail.com Comment

Big day today – we got up and out of the house by 8:40 which didn’t sound too hard to me until I had a 7-yo involved. We were on our way to the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey and wanted to be sure to get there in time for the sea otter feeding. We made it, and in addition to feeding they were working on training the sea otters basically for stimulation for them (the otters, not the trainers). I guess the otters can actually get sick without the intellectual stimulation. Continue reading → Post ID 48

  • San Francisco, GG Bridge and Tiburon

Posted on July 1, 2008 3:18 pm by funintheslots@gmail.com Comment

Tuesday  morning we met Dena and Jordan at their hotel. I had told Dena to bring whatever she needed. I  didn’t realize they made suitcases that big. We had a few moments in the parking lot getting everything in our car.

We went on to San Francisco, Continue reading → Post ID 48

  • Stone Fruits

Posted on June 29, 2008 2:08 pm by funintheslots@gmail.com Comment

We’re going to be inundated in stone fruits soon, assuming we win the annual race with the birds and squirrels. Some pictures from yesterday…

The blog header picture is one I took of our apricot tree.

  • Canning Dried Beans

    Posted on June 29, 2008 1:48 pm by funintheslots@gmail.com 1 Comment

What with all the manufactured media mania about Bisphenol-A (aka BPA) in our Nalgene and baby bottles, and owning more than a dozen Nalgene bottles, I’ve been following the story pretty carefully.

Once one burrows down through the hysteria, it looks to me like my exposure to BPA is much higher through commercially  canned foods (nearly daily) than through drinking from my Nalgene (a few times a month). Continue reading → Post ID 48
